Pozzolan

Pozzolan has been extracted on Milos since the 1980s. Large deposits of this stone are exploited by the firm of LAVA Mining and Quarrying S.A. on the western coast near Xylokeratia. Processing takes place on site and since the mine is located right on the coast, its shipment by cargo ships is also efficiently carried out. The beach at Gerontas is also on the mine’s premises, so it may only be reached on foot. LAVA also still extracts silica sand at another location.
